“‘Storyteller’ is a portrait of my slavic grandmother recalling her difficult years of youth before and during World War II and how it made her stronger and more appreciative of this life we all live.
My work is an exploration of color and form inspired by the natural world. I am interested in capturing the essence of mood and feelings as well as the beauty of ordinary objects. I use the figure as a vehicle to communicate feelings of strength, vulnerability and complexities of human relationships. Drawing inspiration from my personal experiences, I aim to create a space where viewers can resonate with the figures portrayed in the artwork. I work primarily with colored pencils by applying multiple layers of pigment in an effort to produce subtle tones and color transitions to create realistic expressions.”
